DELI SERDANG, WARTA BUNDARAN – The Beringin Police under the Deli Serdang Police Department successfully foiled potential violence by arresting three students suspected of being members of an armed motor gang. The apprehension took place in the Beringin District during the early hours of Sunday (August 9, 2026).
When confirmed by reporters, Chief of Beringin Police, Iptu Briyan Jaya Ginting, S.H., M.H., verified the operation. “That is correct. Early this morning, our officers managed to thwart potential disruption and detain three teenagers suspected of being motor gang members,” Iptu Briyan stated.
The operation began when a mobile patrol team from the Beringin Police conducted routine security sweeps across the jurisdiction. During the patrol, officers spotted three youth riding together on a single motorcycle while carrying a sharp weapon—a sickle (clurit). The police team immediately gave chase and safely intercepted the suspects at Dusun Rahayu, Pasar V Kebun Kelapa Village, Beringin District, Deli Serdang Regency, before transporting them to the Beringin Police Headquarters for further investigation.
During interrogation, the three suspects—identified by their initials RAAH, RS, and A—were revealed to be students residing in the neighboring Lubuk Pakam District. Officers confiscated the sickle as physical evidence, and all three individuals remain in custody for further processing.
Addressing the incident, Iptu Briyan issued a strong appeal to parents throughout the Beringin Police jurisdiction to maintain tighter supervision over their children’s activities, especially during late hours. “We strongly urge parents to continuously monitor their children and ensure they are safely inside their homes before 10:00 PM. Do not allow them to roam the streets late at night,” emphasized Iptu Briyan. He also underlined the vital role of early moral education at home to prevent youths from falling into criminal behavior that jeopardizes their own futures and public safety.
The growing involvement of students and teenagers in street gangs and sharp-weapon violence has become an urgent public security concern across North Sumatra, particularly in buffer areas surrounding Medan such as Deli Serdang. Driven by peer pressure, social media notoriety, and a lack of constructive nocturnal activities, young individuals are increasingly targeted for recruitment by organized motorcycle groups (geng motor), often leading to violent brawls and public unrest.
In response to these escalations, the Deli Serdang Regional Police (Polresta Deli Serdang) has intensified night-time patrols and preventive sweeps in high-risk corridors. Local authorities and community leaders continue to advocate for collaborative measures, including night curfews, community watch initiatives, and school-based anti-delinquency campaigns, to steer local youth away from street crime and ensure public order across North Sumatra.
