LABUHANBATU UTARA – Public concern has intensified in North Labuhanbatu Regency (Labura), North Sumatra, following reports that an ex-convict identified as Saimin, alongside suspected associates Ipul and Andi Klara, is allegedly expanding illicit crystal methamphetamine (shabu) distribution operations across several areas in the NA IX-X District, particularly around Kota Batu.
Local residents report that the illegal network has been extending its reach, raising deep concerns over public security and the potential negative impact on the local youth. Despite ongoing law enforcement efforts in the region, community members feel that decisive and swift action is urgently needed to completely dismantle the distribution ring.
In response to the growing threat, community figures and local residents are appealing directly to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to launch a coordinated, high-level crackdown on the network.
“We urge law enforcement authorities—including the Police, TNI, and BNN—to intervene immediately, raid these illicit operations, and arrest all individuals involved in drug trafficking across NA IX-X and Kota Batu,” stated a concerned local resident who requested anonymity.
The community hopes that strong, joint operations will restore safety, safeguard young people from substance abuse, and break the chain of narcotics distribution in North Labuhanbatu.
The spread of narcotics into district-level areas such as NA IX-X underlines a growing trend where drug distribution networks shift operations away from major urban centers to rural and sub-district hubs. Local authorities note that such rural networks often attempt to exploit geographic distances to evade immediate detection, making community vigilance and law enforcement cooperation essential.
The involvement of ex-convicts in drug trafficking highlights the persistent issue of recidivism within illegal narcotics networks. Criminology experts point out that ex-offenders frequently re-establish previous supply lines upon release unless comprehensive surveillance and reintegration programs are aggressively enforced alongside traditional policing.
